Kindergarten children at St Ives Park have the advantage of the very best in learning experiences with our Early Literacy Program. This program promotes the love of reading and writing and builds the foundation for a lifetime of learning.
Under the guidance of Mrs Kathie Anderson the children participate in a two-hour Literacy block four mornings of the week. The program begins with a whole class focus based on either a shared reading or writing strategy. This is a teacher directed activity. The children then participate in small group work involving reading, writing and handwriting. This enables the teacher to see every child each day for either writing or reading within a small group situation. Parent helpers enhance the program by helping with the groups within the classroom or by working with the children individually hearing them read and organising their readers as part of the 'take-home' reading program.
This is a busy and productive time for the children, it develops a love of language and ensures the children achieve the Early Stage 1 outcomes expected of them.
