In NSW primary schools, the study of a language is optional.
Language study allows students to develop communication skills, learn about languages as systems and explore the relationship between language and culture. Students engage with the linguistic and cultural diversity of societies and reflect on their understanding of social interactions.
St Ives Park PS also offers a comprehensive English as an Additional Language or dialect (EALD) Program to support students from a non-English speaking background. This program offers our international students the benefit of a range of EALD activities.
EALD activities are productive literacy tools that are integrated into all curriculum areas within the classroom. When the need arises, students from diverse cultural and language backgrounds participate in intensive small group tuition, or individual lessons facilitated by our EALD teacher.
